Badgeholders,

This is the opening announcement for the Page & Plant, Ames, IA - 10/12/95
CDR Tree.

This is a Leaf signup only, the Branch structure is already complete! The
tree will be relatively small by tape tree standards with only 6 branches
supporting a total of 32 leafs. As soon as I have enough leafs the tree
will be closed! (hint, hint)

Branch Structure: 4 USA, 1 Canada, 1 Europe

CDR - Compact Disc recordable. These discs are playable on any quality CD
player. I say quality because there are some low quality players available
on the market. Some low end boom boxes or no-name cd walkmans may have
trouble with cdr's (cheap optics). Any Sony, JVC, Yamaha or like player
should handle these discs fine!

Note: for those of you with some CDR knowledge who may be curious, the
discs are recorded in Disc-At-Once mode with the pregap set to Zero. Thus,
when the discs are played there is No gap between tracks. I have advised
the branches of this and they have assured me the recording mode will
remain the same down through the leaf copies.

Leafs: You will be required to send two (2) blank CDR's to your branch
along with return postage. There is no substitute for good quality media.
If the media fails it's a total loss, unlike tape you cannot record over
it. Stick to Kodak (infoguard), TDK, Mitsui, or 3M (Imation). Typical
pricing is about $3/disc. If you do not have a source for media I suggest
you consider these two web sites, both are reliable and provide excellent
service.

I mastered this show roughly two years ago, around the time the P&P tour
was making it's way to Japan. It's a very good show and a nice warm-up to
the Chicago affair of the following night. This was my first real attempt
at mastering a CDR from tape, I am quite pleased with the results. Why
Ames, IA? Well, I was at this show thanks to GreenPeace. The tickets were
expensive but the view was killer, and what an experience - Wow! I could
feel it!
