The Honeydrippers – 20th Anniversary – Tree Announcement

Jan 12, 1981

It has bee a little over a month since the demise of Led Zeppelin.

Robert Plant picks up the phone and speaks to his friend.

`Robby, Yeah this Robert, so what do you think? Are you in?'

`Yeah, this could be fun.'

`What about starting next month? I know we still need a few.'

`I was talking to Keith and Ricky and they're in. What About Kevin?'

`Yeah, he's in. Talked to him last night'

`I'll be meeting with Andy tonight. Let you know tomorrow'

`Great… I'll be `round'

As he sat back in his chair, thoughts of his influences began to emerge, Elvis, Otis, Buddy, Muddy and Gene. Where to start from, if not from your own roots?

In 1981 Robert Plant along with a few friends and associates form a band `The Honeydrippers'. The band, consisting of Robbie Blunt – Guitar, Ricky Cool – Harp, Keith Evans- Saxophone, Kevin O'Neil – Drums, Andy Sylvester – Guitar and Jim Wickman – Bass, begin playing small clubs in the English countryside.

The Band set list consist of songs of influence: to name a few, of Gene Vincent, Elvis Presley and Muddy Waters. They play impromptu gigs and slowly become a cohesive working unit. Throughout 1981, as the band became more seasoned, Robert Plant began to pave the way to his own career. `The Honeydrippers' allowed Robert to pay homage to his idols and focus on the formidable task that lied ahead. Robert Plant was on his own.

After the successful release of his first solo LP, Robert and band not having enough material to tour go back into the studios and perform an impromptu charity gig, under a new name `The Skinneydippers'. At that point Robert Plant and the band look forward to the 80's. The following announcement is for the Honeydrippers 20th Anniversary of this Robert Plant transition group called `The Honeydrippers'.

Three shows, May 26, 1981, May 27, 1981 and Jan 12, 1985.

These shows were converted to CDR using E.A.C. and Easy CD Creator, from the 2nd generation cassette tapes. The original equipment used to record the show was a cassette recorder, placed on the table of the bar. There are mike hits and pops and some fluctuation in the sound (with the people walking around and in front of the mikes and of course the alcoholic beverages being consumed). To maintain the integrity of the source of the original show, the CDRs produced are as close to the original cassette tapes as possible. One show is of lesser quality than the other, but I have included it in the set due to the rarity of the show.

The Skinnydippers video was Pro shot and appears to be 3rd generation: the video has been converted to CDR using Adobe 6.0 under DivX. format (kindly done by Airforcewon@hotmail.com ).
